August brought a concern from an El Dorado Hills homeowner who had noticed wasps repeatedly gathering near a covered patio. The family used that space regularly, but the activity had made them hesitant to sit outside or use the nearby back door.
When I arrived, I asked the homeowner to show me where they had noticed the insects from a distance. They pointed toward a sheltered section of the patio roof. They had seen insects moving around that location but had left it undisturbed.
I reviewed the accessible area and the reported activity before discussing suitable service. The important starting point was understanding the insect, the location and how we could access it.

The concern was close to a space the household used every day. That meant the service needed to account for the patio, back entrance and arrangements for people and pets during the work.
The homeowner also wanted to know whether treatment would include removing the suspected nest. I explained that treatment, accessible nest removal and building repairs are different parts of a proposal. Each needs to be clearly agreed rather than assumed.
I assessed the accessible activity location and explained the recommended approach before starting. We discussed the area that would be serviced, preparation and temporary access restrictions.
Once the homeowner understood the plan, I carried out the agreed measures. I then explained what they should watch for afterward and when continued activity should be reported.
I also clarified the scope of any removal work. Where a location is concealed or difficult to reach, further investigation may be needed before additional work can be offered.
In this example, the homeowner reported reduced activity around the serviced patio location after the work. They also understood when the space could be used again and how to contact us if the concern continued.
That clarity mattered. The household had a defined plan for the reported problem, without being promised that no wasps would ever appear elsewhere around the property.

Before arranging service, leave a suspected nest undisturbed. An existing photograph may help with identification, but you do not need to approach the insects to take one.
Tell the technician where activity occurs, which entrances are nearby and whether children or pets use the space. Those details help with planning access and preparation.
If insects appear to be entering a wall or roof opening, ask for advice before sealing it. After service, follow the instructions provided and report activity at the same location rather than attempting additional treatment yourself.
On a wasp enquiry, I want to understand more than the latest sighting. Identification, access and the position of the concern all affect the work we recommend.
I also want the customer to know exactly what they are booking. A treatment enquiry should lead to a clear explanation of covered locations, any nest removal and the follow-up available.
If you notice repeated wasp activity near an entrance, patio or outdoor structure, tell us where it is happening. That gives us a useful starting point for assessment.
