October brought a call from an El Dorado Hills homeowner who had noticed signs of possible rodent activity in the garage. They had heard occasional noises and found damage to a stored food package.
When I arrived, I asked them to show me the affected locations and explain when the concern started. They had noticed the evidence near shelving along one wall but were unsure whether the problem extended beyond the garage.
I inspected the relevant accessible areas and reviewed possible access points. I wanted to understand the evidence before recommending control measures or assuming which animal was involved.

The concern involved both reported activity and the way the garage was being used. Stored items limited access to some locations, while food storage and building openings needed closer review.
The homeowner wanted the immediate problem addressed, but also asked how to keep it from happening again. That required a clear distinction between control work, monitoring and any separately proposed exclusion or repairs.
I reviewed the accessible evidence and explained the recommended control approach. We discussed placement, household access and the areas included in the service.
I then carried out the agreed measures and explained any monitoring arrangements. We also discussed changes to storage and the maintenance concerns identified during inspection.
Where sealing or repairs were recommended, I clarified whether that work was included in the proposal. I provided instructions for reporting fresh evidence so any continued activity could be reviewed.
In this example, the homeowner reported less activity during the agreed review period. They had also improved access around the shelving and addressed the storage concerns discussed.
The useful result was a more informed homeowner. They knew which work had been completed, what still needed maintenance attention and how to report further evidence.

When arranging a rodent assessment, note where you have seen activity or heard sounds. Existing photographs and details of damaged items can help explain the concern.
Keep the agreed inspection areas accessible and tell us about any traps or products already placed. Ask before moving devices so we can understand previous control efforts.
Discuss suspected entry points before sealing them, and follow the maintenance recommendations provided. If fresh evidence appears after service, record the location and contact us to review the next step.

Rodent control should come with an explanation of how progress will be assessed. Customers need to know what happens after the first appointment and what coverage applies if activity returns.
Inspection also has limits. Accessible openings can be reviewed, but concealed areas may require further investigation. I want those boundaries and any proposed exclusion work to be clear before the customer approves the plan.
A garage noise or damaged package may seem minor, but it is worth understanding the cause. An assessment helps turn uncertain evidence into suitable next steps.
